1. Optimize Your Profile

Before you can even think about actually answering any questions, it’s imperative to optimize your profile first.

Every time you answer a question, a snippet of your bio (50 characters) is shown. Before you even answer, this is a great opportunity to establish yourself as someone relevant and credible from the very beginning.

Make your title/company/brand as visible as soon as possible given that Quora will only display the first 50 characters.

You can also have topic-specific bios. If you’re answering questions related to business topics, for example, you can have a bio that pertains to your business experience. Alternatively, if you are answering questions about marketing topics, you can mention your marketing experience.

It may seem obvious, but you will simply not be able to develop authority in your area if you’re grammar is poor, if you are making spelling mistakes and so on.

Popular questions tend to generate a lot of answers, many of which have potentially thousands of upvotes. While you could certainly contribute to these posts, chances are high that your answer is just going to be buried among the top answers that are there already.

In other words, answering popular questions is likely not going to provide you with a great return on investment.

That’s why it’s a much better decision to choose questions that have a lot of followers and the least amount of answers as possible (this leads us to our next point, which is to be the first to answer).

6. Be The First to Answer (While Still Providing A Research-Backed Post)

Those who answer questions first have an advantage over those who are the last to answer.

First and foremost, the person who asked the question is much more likely to upvote you or to discuss the matter further since the question is so fresh and they really want to know the answer to their question. Doing so allows you to build relationships.

Secondly, answering first means that you can be the authority on the topic (assuming, of course, that you answer well) over someone else. You won’t be repeating the ideas of others.

To set this up, type a topic you’re interested in into Quora’s search box and begin following the topics that are of interest to you by clicking the green ‘Follow Topic’ button.

When you click on the topic, you will then see a list of questions that were asked as well as additional related topics that you can also follow.

You can get the latest questions emailed to you by following a topic, clicking on the ‘Settings’ button and then turning your Email Settings to On.

If you are new to Quora, a great tip is to spend some time looking at the top answers to these questions so you can get a feel for how these people answered.

7. Become an Active Participant in Your Niche
