What sets SEMrush apart right off the bat is the fact that it’s an all-in-one SEO tool, managing to do (mostly) everything quite well. It markets itself as the “All-in-One Marketing Toolkit,” covering SEO, PPC and social media.
SEMrush is also relatively easy to use.
For those who enjoy some interesting facts, here is a couple: interestingly enough, SEMrush was one of the first competitor-based keyword research tools to pop up on the market, which was around 2008.
If you’re familiar with SEOQuake, the same two guys also developed SEMrush. Secondly, SEMrush is basically credited with competitor-based keyword research, which is pretty impressive in and of itself.
Now, what sets SEMrush apart from the rest is its arguably the best competitive intelligence tool. In other words, it allows you to discover your competitors’ SEO as well as PPC strategies. It’s also a great keyword research tool.

It’s arguably the most intuitive SEO tool on this list. In addition to this, Majestic offers great, all-around support, including videos, tutorials, help files and account managers who are there to provide even more helpful instructions.

When it comes to the best SEO tools, Ahrefs and SEMRush seem to get mentioned the most. They also complement each other well. For example, SEMRush has a lot of overall functionality.
However, where backlink checking is concerned, Ahrefs wins out. It has a bigger index and is more precise.
That’s why we would suggest that if you are looking for an SEO tool that checks all of the boxes, you use both SEMrush and Ahrefs consecutively.
What about Majestic, you ask?
Again, the ease of use is the only thing that really sets Majestic apart from Ahrefs.
